What does John 11:4 mean?
When Jesus heard that his friend Lazarus was gravely ill, he made a startling statement: the illness wouldn't end in permanent death, but would instead become an occasion for God's power to shine through. This doesn't mean the suffering wasn't real or that death wouldn't come, but that God could use even this dark moment to reveal something true about himself and his character. What Jesus is pointing to here is that our hardest moments, our sickness, our grief, our confusion, can somehow become windows through which others see God's faithfulness and love. It's an invitation to trust that even when we can't see how things will work out, God isn't absent from our pain. He meets us there and often transforms it into something that draws us and others closer to him.
