John 11:24
“Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.””
What does John 11:24 mean?
Martha is expressing what she believed as a faithful Jewish person of her time: that God would eventually raise the dead at the end of time. It's a sincere statement of faith, yet it also shows she's still thinking in terms of distant, future hope rather than recognizing that the power to raise the dead is standing right in front of her. Jesus is about to show her that resurrection isn't just a doctrine to believe in someday, but something he can do right now. Her faith is real, but it's about to become deeply personal in a way she couldn't have imagined.
