“Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”
What does John 11:21 mean?
Martha speaks these words at the moment when her brother Lazarus has been dead for four days, and she's greeting Jesus as he arrives at their home. Her words carry both faith and honest disappointment: she believes Jesus has the power to heal, yet she's grieving that he didn't arrive in time to use it.
