John 10:8
“All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them.”
What does John 10:8 mean?
Jesus is making a bold claim here about spiritual leadership and authority. He's saying that anyone claiming to be the true shepherd of God's people before he arrived was actually stealing their trust and leading them astray, though his true followers wouldn't fall for it anyway. This doesn't mean every faithful teacher in the Old Testament was a fraud, but rather that Jesus is the authentic voice of God, and those who genuinely belong to him recognize that difference. It's an invitation to examine where we're really getting our spiritual guidance and to trust that God's real sheep know his voice when they hear it.
