What does John 10:28 mean?
Jesus is making a promise about security and permanence that speaks directly to our deepest fears. He's saying that when we belong to him, our relationship with God isn't temporary or fragile, dependent on our own ability to hold on. Instead, we're held safely in his grip, and nothing in all creation has the power to separate us from that. The promise cuts both directions: we won't perish (meaning we won't face ultimate destruction or loss), and no external force can wrench us away. This matters most when we feel weak, when we're worried we'll lose our way, or when we're afraid that our past mistakes or present struggles have disqualified us. Jesus is speaking directly to that anxiety, insisting that our security doesn't rest on our strength or our performance, but on his unfailing hold on us.
