“Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.”
What does John 1:44 mean?
Philip came from Bethsaida, a fishing town on the Sea of Galilee, and so did two of Jesus's other earliest disciples, Andrew and Peter. This verse is a small detail, but it reminds us that the first people who followed Jesus came from ordinary places and often knew each other already, drawing their friends and family into faith together. When Philip meets Jesus the next day, he immediately goes to find Nathanael and tells him about the one he's found, showing how personal relationships were central to how Jesus's movement began.
