John 1:31
“I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel.””
What does John 1:31 mean?
John the Baptist is explaining why God sent him to baptize people in the Jordan River. He hadn't known Jesus personally beforehand, but his whole purpose was to prepare the way and help people recognize who Jesus actually was. By baptizing crowds and calling them to repentance, John created the perfect moment for Jesus to step forward, get baptized himself, and be publicly identified as God's promised one. It's a beautiful picture of someone faithfully doing their part in God's bigger plan, even when they don't have all the details figured out yet.
