What does Job 9:12 mean?
Job is wrestling with God's overwhelming power in the midst of his suffering, and here he's expressing something painfully honest: God moves and acts according to his own will, and no one can stop him or demand an explanation. When Job says "he snatches away," he's thinking about how quickly God can take things from us, whether health, possessions, or loved ones, and there's no court of appeal we can file with. This isn't Job saying God is cruel, exactly, but rather that God operates on a scale so far beyond ours that our human categories of fairness don't seem to apply. It's the cry of someone who feels small and powerless in the face of circumstances he can't control or understand. Many people in dark seasons recognize this feeling, and there's something almost relieving about naming it out loud rather than pretending everything makes sense.
