Job 7:9
“As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol shall come up no more.”
What does Job 7:9 mean?
Job is describing death here with the image of a cloud dissolving into nothing, then disappearing entirely from the sky. He's expressing his deepest fear: that once a person dies and descends into Sheol (the grave, the place of the dead), there's no return, no second chance, no way back to life or relationship with those left behind. In this moment of suffering, Job feels the weight of mortality pressing down on him, afraid that death will steal away everything he cares about.
