What does Job 6:21 mean?
Job is expressing the bitter disappointment of abandoned friendship. His companions have come to comfort him in his suffering, but when they actually see how devastated he is, they recoil in fear and offer no real help. He's saying they're worth nothing to him because they promised support but delivered only their own anxiety about his condition. This cuts to the heart of loneliness in pain: sometimes the people around us care, but they care more about their own discomfort than about actually standing with us. Job isn't being fair to his friends (they do try), but his words capture something true about how isolating severe suffering can feel, especially when people pull away because they don't know what to do.
