What does Job 6:17 mean?
Job is describing what happens to streams in the desert when the weather turns harsh. What flows freely during cooler months simply disappears when the heat comes, leaving nothing behind. He's using this image of vanishing water to talk about his friends, saying they've abandoned him just when he needs them most, like a stream that dries up when you're desperate for water. It's a poignant way of expressing betrayal during suffering, when the support we counted on evaporates at the moment of greatest need.
