What does Job 6:16 mean?
Job is describing streams that turn dark and murky when winter ice forms on them, with snow piling up and obscuring what lies beneath. He's using this image of frozen, hidden water to illustrate his point about broken promises and disappointment. Just as you can't rely on these seasonal streams when you need them most (they're frozen solid when it's coldest), his friends have proven unreliable in his darkest hour. There's something particularly bitter about the image: you see the streambed, but the water you desperately need is locked away, invisible and inaccessible.
