What does Job 41:23 mean?
This description comes near the end of God's long speech to Job, where God is painting a picture of Leviathan, a creature of such massive power and density that its very body seems impenetrable. The "flakes of flesh" refers to the overlapping scales or muscular sections that make up this being's form, packed so tightly and firmly together that nothing can shake or separate them. The point isn't really about anatomy, but about wholeness and strength in the face of chaos. After Job has questioned why he's suffering, God responds with images of wild, untamable creatures that exist in their own perfect order, beyond human control or understanding.
