What does Job 35:11 mean?
Elihu is challenging Job here, asking a rhetorical question that means: "Who has given us more understanding than the creatures around us?" The point is that humans have been equipped with reason, conscience, and spiritual awareness in a way that sets us apart from animals. Even birds and beasts operate on instinct, but we can reflect, choose, and seek wisdom. This comes near the end of Job's suffering, when his friends are trying to help him understand why he's hurting. Elihu's argument is that if God gave humans these higher capacities, surely we can trust that God knows what he's doing, even when life doesn't make sense. It's a reminder that our ability to think, question, and seek meaning is itself a gift, not something to resent.
