Job 34:4
“Let us choose for us that which is right. Let us know among ourselves what is good.”
What does Job 34:4 mean?
Elihu is inviting Job and his friends to step back from their heated arguments and reason together about what's actually true and right. He's essentially saying: let's all put our pride aside and think carefully about this situation, because surely we can figure out what makes sense if we're genuinely seeking wisdom rather than just trying to win the debate. There's something hopeful in this approach, even though Elihu's actual arguments turn out to be flawed. The verse reminds us that when we're stuck in conflict or confusion, sometimes the best move is to pause and ask ourselves honestly: what would actually be right here? And sometimes we need others to help us see clearly, because our own perspective might be clouded by pain or defensiveness.
