Job 33:12
““Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.”
What does Job 33:12 mean?
Elihu is speaking here to Job, who has been defending his innocence while suffering. His point is sharp: even if Job is righteous, he's wrong to measure God by human standards of justice. God operates on a scale and with knowledge so far beyond ours that we can't fairly judge whether he's being just simply because we don't understand what he's doing. This doesn't mean God is unjust, but rather that our complaints often come from seeing only a small piece of a much larger story. When we're in pain, it's natural to demand answers in terms we can follow, yet this verse suggests that maturity sometimes means accepting that God's fairness works in ways we're not equipped to fully grasp.
