What does Job 30:5 mean?
Job is describing the lowest members of society who were forced to live on the margins, wandering and desperate. When these outcasts appeared in towns or villages, people would chase them away just as they would pursue a thief, treating them with hostility and shame. Job uses this image to emphasize how completely rejected and unwelcome these people were, with no one offering them dignity or compassion. He's painting a picture of human cruelty at its harshest, which becomes especially poignant because Job himself will soon find his own status overturned and experience what it feels like to be rejected and despised.
