Job 24:19
“Drought and heat consume the snow waters, so does Sheol those who have sinned.”
What does Job 24:19 mean?
Job is describing how the natural world operates with relentless indifference, and suggesting that death (Sheol) works the same way on sinners. Just as melting snow inevitably becomes runoff and disappears into drought and heat, so too do those who sin inevitably get consumed by death. It's a stark image from a man deeply suffering, wrestling with why wrongdoing seems to go unpunished in his experience and in the world around him. Job isn't necessarily claiming this is how God works, but rather expressing his frustration that natural consequences seem random and unfair, that sin and death don't always operate in the orderly, just way we might expect.
