What does Job 24:18 mean?
Job is describing how the wicked seem to vanish without lasting consequence, like foam that briefly floats on water before dissolving into nothing. He's saying that despite their apparent success, their legacy and inheritance are cursed, hollow, and disconnected from any true blessing or flourishing. The image of not turning toward vineyards (a symbol of fruitful, settled life) reinforces that the wicked drift through existence without building anything of real value or putting down roots. This comes near the end of Job's speeches, when he's cataloging the injustices he observes in the world. He's wrestling with why evil people seem to prosper while good people suffer, and he keeps returning to the conviction that their gain is ultimately empty and temporary.
