Job 17:4
“For you have hidden their heart from understanding, Therefore you shall not exalt them.”
What does Job 17:4 mean?
Job is speaking here in the midst of his suffering, and he's wrestling with why God seems to have closed off his friends' hearts to truly understanding his pain. He's saying that God has withheld wisdom or compassion from them, and because of that hardness of heart, they won't be lifted up or honored for their counsel. This captures something many of us recognize in our own hard times: when people can't or won't truly listen to what we're going through, there's something spiritually incomplete about their position. Job isn't saying this out of bitterness exactly, but rather naming a kind of spiritual consequence that comes from refusing to understand another person's suffering.
