Job 15:7
““Are you the first man who was born? Or were you brought out before the hills?”
What does Job 15:7 mean?
Eliphaz is challenging Job's claim to wisdom by pointing out that Job is just an ordinary person, not someone who was present at creation or who has some special ancient knowledge. The question is meant to deflate Job's confidence, suggesting he's being arrogant by disagreeing with conventional wisdom about suffering and righteousness. It's a cutting way of saying, "Who do you think you are?" When we're struggling and someone implies we're too inexperienced or insignificant to have a valid perspective, these words can sting, but they also reveal something about Eliphaz himself: he's so certain he's right that he can't imagine Job might have genuine insight into his own suffering.
