What does Job 15:25 mean?

Eliphaz is describing someone who refuses to submit to God, even as circumstances grow darker. The image of stretching out one's hand against God suggests active defiance, not passive doubt, someone who shakes their fist at heaven rather than crying out for help. This kind of pride, Eliphaz believes, is what hardens a person's heart and keeps them from finding relief or restoration. He's essentially saying that stubbornness in the face of suffering only makes everything worse, yet what's striking is how his confidence in this diagnosis blinds him to Job's actual condition.
