What does Jeremiah 9:18 mean?
The prophet Jeremiah is calling for professional mourners to come and help the people express their grief over the destruction coming to Jerusalem. He's inviting them to weep so openly and fully that tears stream down their faces, showing how deep the sorrow will be. This isn't about putting on a performance, though mourners were a real part of ancient funeral practices, but rather permission to let grief flow without holding back. Sometimes when we're in the midst of loss or devastation, we need others to grieve alongside us and help us name how much it hurts.
