What does Jeremiah 9:17 mean?
In ancient Judah, professional mourning women were called in during times of national grief and disaster to help the community process deep loss through ritual lamentation and song. God is telling the people through Jeremiah that what's coming—the fall of Jerusalem—will be so devastating that they need to gather everyone they can to grieve it properly. This isn't God being cruel; it's God being honest about the weight of what's happening and acknowledging that such sorrow deserves to be felt and expressed fully rather than buried. Sometimes recognizing how bad things really are is the only way to move through them.
