What does Jeremiah 8:12 mean?
Jeremiah lived during a time when God's people had drifted so far from what was right that they'd lost the ability to feel shame about it. This verse captures the prophet's heartbreak: not only were they doing wrong things, but they'd become so hardened that their consciences no longer bothered them. That numbness, that inability to blush or feel conviction, was itself a sign of spiritual danger. The consequence Jeremiah warns about isn't arbitrary punishment handed down from an angry god, but rather the natural result of ignoring your own moral compass. When we silence shame completely instead of letting it guide us toward change, we become increasingly fragile and vulnerable.
