Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,

What does Jeremiah 7:9 mean?

Jeremiah is speaking God's words to people who thought they could live however they wanted as long as they showed up at the temple. He's listing the kinds of things they were actually doing—breaking trust, harming others, turning to false gods—while still claiming to be God's faithful people. The point isn't that some sins are worse than others, but that you can't compartmentalize your life and expect God to overlook the damage you're causing. It's a wake-up call that genuine faith has to show up in how we treat people and where we place our loyalty, not just in our religious habits.
