What does Jeremiah 6:13 mean?

Jeremiah is describing a society where the desire for more has infected everyone, from ordinary people to those in power. When greed becomes normal and widespread, it naturally leads people to compromise their integrity, even those who are supposed to be trustworthy guides. The prophet points out that this isn't a problem isolated to one group or class, it's woven through the entire culture, which makes it especially dangerous because there's no one left to call people back to what's right. What makes this sobering is the recognition that when we stop questioning our own desires for gain, we inevitably start justifying smaller and smaller lies to get what we want.
