Jeremiah 5:25
““Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you.”
What does Jeremiah 5:25 mean?
When life feels hard and resources are scarce, it's natural to wonder why God isn't providing. Jeremiah is telling the people of Judah that the difficulty they're experiencing isn't God abandoning them, but rather the consequences of their own choices and waywardness. The prophet uses the image of things being "turned away" and "withheld" to show that their separation from God through sin has created distance from his blessings. This doesn't mean every hardship is punishment for personal wrongdoing (the book of Job tackles that misconception directly). Rather, it's an honest acknowledgment that when we drift from what's good and right, we naturally move away from flourishing. It's an invitation to consider whether our current struggles might be pointing us back toward the choices and relationships that actually bring life.
