What does Jeremiah 5:24 mean?
The prophet Jeremiah is criticizing people who fail to recognize God's hand in the rhythms of their own lives. He's pointing out that they don't pause to acknowledge that the rain falling on their fields and the seasons that bring harvest come from God, not from chance or their own cleverness. In an agricultural society, this would have been obvious: without rain at the right times, crops failed and people starved, yet they took these basic gifts for granted. The deeper point is that when we stop noticing how we're sustained day by day, we lose the awe and gratitude that naturally leads us to trust and honor God. Jeremiah is calling people back to that simple awareness: that the ordinary, recurring blessings in our lives are actually signs of God's faithfulness to us.
