‘Hear this now, foolish people without understanding; who have eyes, and don’t see; who have ears, and don’t hear:

What does Jeremiah 5:21 mean?

God is describing people who have all the physical ability to perceive truth but choose not to use it. They can see the evidence of God's work around them and hear His message, yet they stubbornly refuse to let either one change them. It's not about disability or incapacity, but about a hardened heart that won't pay attention. This hits hard because it suggests that sometimes we're not truly unable to understand God's ways, we're just unwilling. We might have received countless signs, heard wise counsel, or felt the Spirit prompting us, yet we keep walking past it. The sadness in God's voice here reflects the pain of someone trying to reach people who've locked themselves away from receiving help.
