““Behold, he will come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over it. For who is like me? Who will appoint me a time? Who is the shepherd who will stand before me?””
What does Jeremiah 49:19 mean?
God is speaking here about bringing swift judgment against Edom, a nation that had opposed His people. The image of a lion rising from the Jordan's thickets captures sudden, overwhelming power that scatters everyone in its path, and God alone will decide who leads what remains afterward.
