What does Jeremiah 49:18 mean?
Jeremiah is delivering hard news about Edom, a neighboring nation that had been hostile to Judah. The prophet uses one of the Bible's most catastrophic images, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, to show just how complete and devastating God's judgment will be. When he says no one will dwell there, he means the land will be so thoroughly emptied and ruined that it becomes uninhabitable, a place of absolute desolation.
