Jeremiah 44:3
“because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, to serve other gods that they didn’t know, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.”
What does Jeremiah 44:3 mean?
God is expressing deep hurt through the prophet Jeremiah about why judgment has come on His people. They've turned to worship foreign gods they don't even truly understand, choosing idols over their relationship with the God who has known and cared for them throughout their history. This wasn't a small stumble but a deliberate rejection, and Jeremiah makes clear that the problem goes back generations—it's not a recent mistake but a long pattern of turning away. When we drift from what we know to be true into serving things that don't really satisfy us, we're pushing away the One who actually sees us and loves us.
