“Thus Yahweh could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is today.”
What does Jeremiah 44:22 mean?
Jeremiah is speaking to Judah's refugees in Egypt, confronting them with a hard truth: their land lies in ruins not by accident, but because God reached the limit of his patience with their persistent unfaithfulness. The people had repeatedly turned to idolatry and injustice, ignoring warning after warning through the prophets. When God says he "could no longer bear it," he's describing a breaking point, much like a parent finally having to let consequences fall when a child refuses to listen.
