What does Jeremiah 44:13 mean?
God is warning the Judean refugees who fled to Egypt that they won't find safety there. After Jerusalem fell to Babylon, some survivors escaped to Egypt thinking they'd escape God's judgment, but this passage tells them that God's discipline reaches wherever they go. The "sword, famine, and pestilence" were the three devastating consequences of disobedience that had already destroyed their homeland, and God is saying those same hard realities will follow them into Egypt too. This is a sobering reminder that running from God doesn't work, but it's also meant to call people back to faithfulness. The underlying message is that God cares enough to pursue his people even in their rebellion, hoping they'll turn around and return to him rather than continue down a destructive path.
