What does Jeremiah 44:1 mean?
Jeremiah has been delivering God's messages to the people of Judah for decades, but now his word extends beyond Jerusalem's walls to Jewish refugees scattered throughout Egypt. These weren't people who chose exile lightly—they fled there after Jerusalem fell to Babylon, hoping to find safety far from destruction. God's concern reaches them anyway, wherever they've scattered, because they still matter to him and their choices still have spiritual weight. What follows in this passage is a difficult message, but the fact that God speaks to the scattered and forgotten tells us something true: distance and displacement don't put us beyond God's attention or care.
