What does Jeremiah 4:20 mean?

Jeremiah is describing the overwhelming, cascading devastation that comes when a nation ignores God's warnings. The prophet uses vivid personal language, shifting from the larger collapse to the intimate loss of his own home, to show how completely the invasion sweeps through everything and everyone. When he says destruction is "decreed," he means this isn't random chaos but the consequence of persistent unfaithfulness. The speed of it all, happening "in a moment," captures both the shock of sudden military conquest and the spiritual disorientation of watching everything you built fall apart so quickly.
