What does Jeremiah 4:14 mean?
Jeremiah is calling the people of Jerusalem to genuine inner change, not just outward religious practices. The image of washing the heart suggests that salvation isn't about performing the right rituals or saying the right words, but about actually turning away from the harmful thoughts and patterns that pull us away from God. The urgent question at the end, "How long will your evil thoughts lodge within you?" carries both compassion and seriousness, as if the prophet is asking: how much longer will you let these destructive patterns stay at home in your mind? It's an invitation to stop rehearsing what hurts us and to make space for something better instead.
