Jeremiah 4:13
“Behold, he will come up as clouds, and his chariots will be as the whirlwind. His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! For we are ruined.”
What does Jeremiah 4:13 mean?
Jeremiah is describing an enemy army approaching Jerusalem with overwhelming speed and power, using vivid images of clouds, whirlwinds, and swift horses to show how unstoppable they seem. The prophet isn't celebrating this vision, though, he's heartbroken, recognizing that this judgment is coming because of the people's unfaithfulness to God. The despair in "Woe to us! For we are ruined" reflects both the terror of what's coming and the weight of knowing it's the consequence of turning away from God. Even in this dark warning, Jeremiah's anguished cry shows that he cares deeply about his people and grieves what they're about to face.
