What does Jeremiah 38:14 mean?
King Zedekiah had kept the prophet Jeremiah imprisoned because he was tired of hearing difficult truths, yet here he sneaks him away to ask for honest counsel anyway. There's a quiet desperation in this moment: the king wants the prophet's real answer, not flattery, which shows how badly things have fallen apart during Jerusalem's siege.
