Jeremiah 37:7
““Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘You shall tell the king of Judah, who sent you to me to inquire of me: “Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you, will return to Egypt into their own land.”
What does Jeremiah 37:7 mean?
King Zedekiah of Judah was facing siege by the Babylonians and desperately sent priests to ask the prophet Jeremiah if God would deliver them. This verse contains God's answer, and it's not what the king wanted to hear. God tells them that the Egyptian army coming to their aid will retreat back to Egypt, leaving Judah vulnerable to the Babylonian forces. The hard truth here is that God doesn't always rescue us from consequences the way we hope He will, and sometimes our human allies can't save us either. Zedekiah wanted reassurance that everything would work out, but Jeremiah was called to speak an honest word instead. It's a sobering reminder that God is real about our situations, and His care for us doesn't always look like immediate relief from our troubles.
