Jeremiah 35:6
“But they said, “We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, ‘You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever.”
What does Jeremiah 35:6 mean?
The Rechabites were a clan who took a vow generations earlier through their ancestor Jonadab to abstain from wine as a way of staying faithful to God and separate from the surrounding culture. When the prophet Jeremiah tested them by offering wine, they refused, explaining that they were simply honoring the commitment their forefather had made.
