“I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, “Drink wine!””
What does Jeremiah 35:5 mean?
In this scene, the prophet Jeremiah is testing the Rechabites, a group known for their strict commitment to following their ancestor Jonadab's rules, which included refusing wine. By offering them wine and urging them to drink, Jeremiah is essentially setting up a test of their faithfulness to their family's convictions.
