“You will die in peace; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they will make a burning for you. They will lament you, saying, “Ah Lord!” for I have spoken the word,’ says Yahweh.””
What does Jeremiah 34:5 mean?
The prophet Jeremiah delivers this message to King Zedekiah during Jerusalem's darkest hour, when the city is under siege and seems doomed. God is actually offering Zedekiah a strange kind of mercy: instead of dying violently or in captivity, he will die peacefully in his own bed, and he'll receive a royal funeral with the proper honors and mourning ceremonies given to his predecessors.
