Jeremiah 33:4
“For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to make a defense against the mounds and against the sword;”
What does Jeremiah 33:4 mean?
Jerusalem was under siege, and the city was literally being torn apart. Houses were being demolished to create defensive barriers and fill in siege ramps the enemy was building to breach the walls. This was a moment of desperation and devastation. Yet God is speaking through Jeremiah right in the middle of this catastrophe, and what follows in the next verses is a promise of healing and restoration. The rubble and destruction aren't the final word. God is reminding his people that he sees their suffering, he sees the ruins, and he's committed to rebuilding what was torn down.
