Jeremiah 32:23
“They came in and possessed it, but they didn’t obey your voice and didn’t walk in your law. They have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do. Therefore you have caused all this evil to come upon them.”
What does Jeremiah 32:23 mean?
Jeremiah speaks these words while watching Jerusalem fall to the Babylonians, and he's essentially saying: God gave our ancestors this land and all its blessings, yet they turned away from His guidance and refused to follow His ways. When people consistently reject what they know is right, there are real consequences, not because God is punishing out of anger, but because disobedience naturally breaks what God designed to work. The hard truth here is that our choices matter, and walking away from what we know is good eventually catches up with us. If you're in a season where things feel like they're falling apart, this verse doesn't mean God has abandoned you, but it does invite honest reflection: Are there ways we're ignoring what we know to be true or right?
