What does Jeremiah 32:21 mean?
In this prayer, Jeremiah recalls how God rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt with dramatic displays of power, overwhelming force, and frightening judgments against those who opposed liberation. The "signs and wonders" refer to the plagues that broke Pharaoh's resistance, while the "strong hand" and "outstretched arm" are poetic ways of describing divine action on behalf of the helpless. Jeremiah is reminding God (and himself) of what God has already proven capable of doing, anchoring his faith during a moment of uncertainty and fear. When we find ourselves in seasons of doubt or difficulty, remembering how God has moved in the past, or even how God has moved in others' stories, can restore our confidence that he hasn't abandoned us now.
