Jeremiah 31:37

Yahweh says: “If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done,” says Yahweh.

What does Jeremiah 31:37 mean?

God is making an impossible promise here: he's saying he'll reject Israel only when someone can measure the entire sky and dig down to find the earth's deepest foundations, which no human ever could. It's his way of saying, "I will never cast you off, no matter what you've done." This comes during a time when Israel faced exile and despair, when it felt like God had abandoned them forever. The prophet Jeremiah uses this cosmic image to remind a broken people that God's commitment to them is as vast and unchangeable as creation itself. Even when we mess up badly or feel utterly rejected, this verse suggests God's faithfulness doesn't disappear, though sometimes we have to wait through hard seasons to see it restored.
