What does Jeremiah 31:36 mean?
God is making an unshakeable promise about Israel's future. He's saying that just as the natural laws governing day and night, sun and moon will never disappear, neither will the people of Israel cease to exist as a nation before him. The ordinances here refer to the fixed patterns of creation itself, so this is God's way of swearing by something permanent and unchangeable.
