Jeremiah 31:21

“Set up road signs. Make guideposts. Set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went. Turn again, virgin of Israel. Turn again to these your cities.

What does Jeremiah 31:21 mean?

God is calling the people of Israel back home after exile, and he's using the image of a traveler preparing for a long journey. He's telling them to mark the path clearly so they won't lose their way, and more importantly, to decide in their hearts that they're really going to make the trip back. The "virgin of Israel" refers to the nation itself, treated like a young woman who has wandered far from home and now needs to turn around and return. What makes this tender is that God isn't angry about their absence, he's helping them find their way back. He's essentially saying: prepare yourselves, remember where home is, and come back to me. For anyone who feels spiritually lost or distant from God, this verse carries an invitation, the kind that says the way home is marked and waiting for you.
